Need help!!, determining sump level in a distillation column

(OP)
I am working on dynamic simulation and I am new to this work. can anyone give me an idea of how one can determine the sump height in a distillation column??? Please help!

RE: Need help!!, determining sump level in a distillation column

Is the column existing, or being designed? A drawing or sketch would help if you have it.

Good luck,
Latexman

No, It's a whole new process and I am trying to run it in Aspen. I need to design the column.

The first pass size is usually a residence time rule of thumb. For tower bottoms I recall 3-10 minutes, try 5 minutes and see how that works out.

Good luck,

Design column bottom minimum 20 minute time, this practical approach. Keep in mind feed pump trip and other safety factors.
