NBC 2005 - Table 4.1.8.9

NBC 2005 - Table 4.1.8.9

(OP)
Hello,

I'm looking at a skirt supported tower that is to be designed per NBC-2005. Clearly Table 4.1.8.9 (determination of Rd, Ro) was not written with pressure equipment in mind.

Are there industry standard values for Rd, Ro that people are using?

Thank you,
Marty

RE: NBC 2005 - Table 4.1.8.9

I consider vessels as "other steel SFRS", where Rd=1.0 and Ro=1.0. I don't know if this is an industry practice in Canada.

The structural group who designs the foundation would tell me that using RdxRo = 1.0 is too conservative, but that's what their code says. I keep telling them that I will continue using RdxRo = 1.0 until NBCC Table 4.1.8.9 is revised to include vessels.

Some vessel designers use the Rd, Ro values in Table 15.4-2 in ASCE 7. But they are mixing code rules.
