NX 7.5 Polygon-shaped holes

NX 7.5 Polygon-shaped holes

I would appreciate any possible advice on the following issue:

I am attempting to design an object in NX 7.5 containing polygon-shaped "holes" that span from the top to the bottom surface. I've tried defining a polygon, extruding it such that it is located in the appropriate spot, but I am unable to subtract it from the body (ex. using Insert --> Combine --> Subtract). I also tried importing an extruded polygon and subtracting from the body that way, without any luck. I'm still becoming familiar with this software and may be missing a simpler way of doing this.

Thank you in advance.

RE: NX 7.5 Polygon-shaped holes

Can you provide at least a picture of, if not the actual part file, where you're having this problem, showing both the current model and the 'polygon' toolbody that you're attempting to 'subtract'?

Attached is the part file showing the body (cylinder), from which I have been able to (partially) subtract the polygon. Ultimately, I would like to make this body "porous" through the addition of these polygon parts. However, I am having trouble figuring out the most time efficient way to create multiple polygon "holes". I can easily use the hole function to make simple circular pores, but can't seem to get this to work with more complex shapes.

Thank you for your time.

so what happens when you try to subtract it ?

RE: NX 7.5 Polygon-shaped holes

So where is the model that you're attempting to subtract this polygon tool body from?
