Strength of Existing Roof Deck

Strength of Existing Roof Deck

(OP)
I was reading a thread http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=296655 and wanted to get more input on same question.

The metal deck will run perpendicular to the bar joists (in my case). Its wide rib roof metal deck so it has 6" o.c. for ribs that will be in direct contact with framing below such as top flange of bar joists.

So what if you use a channel section side ways and upside down such as end of flanges are directly in contact with main framing and welded to metal deck, so basically web of channel will cover corrugated portion of deck and flange toes will be directly bear on main framing below. Any steel section that can create a bridge over corrugated portion and creates support from rib to rib and welded to metal deck and transfers load eventually to main framing below.

Any thoughts?

RE: Strength of Existing Roof Deck

There was a suggestion by SteelPE in that thread to do what you are suggesting.

Hmmm...didnt notice that my bad....i was just thinking about avoiding access to framing underneath as in most cases it will not be possible.
