correct power factor with synchronous motor?

correct power factor with synchronous motor?

correct power factor with synchronous motor?

(OP)
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me an example how to correct power factor with a synchronous motor

I know how to correct lagging pf with a capacitor bank, but in school never went over how to with a synchronous motor.

If anyone has an example problem i could study with a 1500w synch. motor or something along those lines, or any papers would be greatly appreciated.

I know that when a synchronous motor is over excited it produces a leading power factor and thus correcting a lagging pf, but i dont know how to calculate it out.

Thanks

RE: correct power factor with synchronous motor?

Successfully using a synchronous condenser depends on the machine being smaller than 'the system' that it is connected to. If the machine is of similar capability to the system then it will tend to influence the local busbar voltage. A stiff system will allow significant reactive power to be flexed without much corresponding voltage change. In short you need to know more than just the machine parameters, you need at least a rudimentary model of your electrical system VAR flow is a result of how the two interact. If you can get enough data to populate something like a SKM PowerTools model then even better.

Awsome, Thanks for the quick reply!
