line pipe used in place of seamless pipe

Hi,

can we use line pipe(HFW) in place of seam less pipe at launcher station piping?
IN ASME 31.3 is there any recomadation to use line pipe inplace of seamless pipe

Thanks & Regards

RE: line pipe used in place of seamless pipe

I can't see any reason why not. However be aware that if your piping is 31.3, hopefully not the pipeline piping, you either need to move the code break or calculate the wall thickness differently. 31.3 doesn't recognise the extra SMYS of line pipe so you need to be careful when swapping one pipe for another.

My motto: Learn something new every day

Also: There's usually a good reason why everyone does it that way

RE: line pipe used in place of seamless pipe

API 5L and 5LX pipe may be used in pipe under B31.3 in accordance with the design allowable stresses listed therein. B31.3 does not "recommend" the use of either over another.
