Hospital Operating Room

Hospital Operating Room

(OP)
Dear friends,

I am working on a surgical suite, where there are two operating room 30 sq. m each and a corridor with small sterile storage room.

AIA & ASHRAE call for min 15 air changes per hour (minimum).
I know VFD and VAV boxes are specified to turn-down supply air in unoccupied mode, but what if energy is very cheap?
Is there any other reason to have VFD & VAV boxes in hospital operating room?
The project is in Africa.

Sincerely,
Fayaz

RE: Hospital Operating Room

Other reasons than energy costs? Here is one thing I can think of. If the room(s) is(are) unoccupied would you still have enough cooling load to provide decent return temperatures to your chillers to avoid frequent cycling?

RE: Hospital Operating Room

Loading of the HEPA would be another reason. Otherwise, you would need to start by oversizing flow.

RE: Hospital Operating Room

There is no such thing as cheap energy. Wasting energy is a crime against nature, no matter how much energy is available. I would think by now the whole world would be "green". Use the VFD and VAV boxes.
