Dear colleagues,
I am very new to Ansys and I have started using Ansys14.0 to simulate magnetic field around current carrying 3D-conductors of different geometry.
I am keeping the preferences as magnetic nodal,magnetic-edge and electric. Discipline options h-method.I am using solid97 element type for the conductor. keyopt(1)=0 and keyopt(5)=2. I want to pass the current through the conductor homogeneously in a direction perpendicular to the cross section of the geometry.If I do it by: Define loads>apply> excitation>Curr Density>On areas, i cannot pass current through the whole body.It shows current only at the face. Curr Density>volume also doesn't work. Anyone can help me regarding this.Where I am wrong or how to pass current through the whole body.

Hi Bhaski,

Actually, I believe you are applying it correctly. Its been a while since I have used direct magnetics in ANSYS without the use of Maxwell, but I may be able to help from memory.

Between the two analysis methods, you would not apply a current or current density over an entire volume. You would apply it as a face, like other loads such as pressure, as it would transmit through the material. Unless you are trying to specify a constant current on the inter-crystal scale of the material, the current and voltage will change some through the material. However, applying it at a face works like a boundary condition, so you can specify a flow. :)

Sometimes in Maxwell I have to draw lead bodies out into vacuum expanded region for analysis (insulated of course) to show where I want that load to be coming in from, if that's what you are aiming for.

I would say try to set up the rest of your analysis as best as possible. If you can't tell us more about this project direct, I understand, but more details of your goal, conditions, and environments will help us be able to help you. :)
