Dear Friends my question is on hastelloy grade why and where it is recommended to use??
as far as consern corrosion point of view there is more then 10% Molibdanum hence it is highly corrosion resistant metal, but while we look on complete composition Ni is more then 50%
as i know MO is added to improve corrosion resistant so why Ni is added in high volume
so my question are
1)what is the application of Hastelloy
2)i want to use same corrosion resistant material any substitute metal which could be cheapar than hastelloy??
3)why Ni is added more then 50% ?? any specific use??

Google Hastelloy.

Anyway its a Nickel Alloy, Nickel isn't added its Nickel+- with Nickel's fundamental high temperature and resistance in reducing corrosion conditions.

Whether some alloy will do instead depends enormously.

These are Ni based alloys so that they have an austenitic structure. This gives them toughness, ductility, and other nice properties.
There are a great number of Ni-Cr-Mo alloys, and each has been designed for corrosion resistance in specific conditions.
That is why there are long data books for each of these grades outlining which chemical environments (concentrations and temperatures) they are suitable for.
Sounds like you need a basic handbook on Ni based corrosion resistant alloys.

To my experience Hastelloy is a Nickel- Chromium - Molybdenum alloy used in high temperature applications with good oxidation resistance and for good resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
It can be used up to 870 deg Celsius with good ductility and is mainly used in high temperature refinery applications (vessels, piping etc.) and also for more specialized applications like injection quills etc.
For more information on Hastelloy do a web search and look up Haynes international (manufacturer of Hastelloy group materials).
