UCS-66 for B16.5

UCS-66 for B16.5

(OP)
According to UCS-66(c), impact testing is not required for ASME B16.5 ferritic steel flanges down to -20F. (I understand "ferritic steel" to include only carbon steel like SA-105, SA-350. Correct me if I'm wrong.) To get a colder MDMT, one can employ UCS-66(b)(1)(b).

My question is: Are there similar rules for B16.5 flanges made out of SA-182 F51? (This material falls outside the scope of UCS.) Also, I don't believe this case falls under UHA-51(g) because this is a flange.

Thanks.

RE: UCS-66 for B16.5

No, there are not similar rules. The Duplex Stainless Steel flanges must be impact tested and certified by the manufacturer or independent tester.

RE: UCS-66 for B16.5

gr2vessels has it right, although I think UHA-51(g)could apply if a person wanted to prove it. I personally wouldn't, too complex.

As to UCS-66(c), ferritic steels also can include low-alloys. See, for example, SA-182 for forging materials sorted by grain structure.

Regards,

Mike
