Hi everybody,

I try to simulate the crack growth in an inhomogeneous media (as below). That is to say, I have 3 layers in my model and each of them has a different property of material. My initial fissure locates in the middle of the model and it is a planar crack. At the bottom of fissure, there is an injecting pressure to induce the crack growth. Concerning the boundary condition, the displacement of lower face is considered to zero (Uy=0). Besides, there is a planar load of 50MPa on the upper face and 10MPa on two sides of the model.



As in the first stage, the hydraulic coupling is not taken into consideration. Therefore, the injecting pressure is considered as a constant pressure over the lip of the crack during the simulation. But I have no idea if it is possible to do so in Abaqus ? If so, would you please give me some informations about applying this constant pressure over the lip of crack ?

Secondly, as I have 3 different layers in my model. Can Abaqus simulate the crack propagation in an inhomogeneous material like this ? If so, how to link each layer to its corresponding material ? And how to mesh the model ? (Mesh the whole structure as a"helth" model ? or mesh 1 layer each time ?)

To conclude, the propagation should be simulated by using XFEM method.

Please tell me if you have any idea about this ! All your responses are sincerely welcomed.
