CO-EFFICIENT LINEAR EXPANSION - CHROME PLATE/17-4 PH STAINLESS STEEL

(OP)
can anybody please explain how the differences in co-efficients of linear expansion for chrome plating and 17-4 PH stainless steel can cause macro-cracks (crazing efect) after heat generated from post plate polish.

Thanks
Mandy

RE: CO-EFFICIENT LINEAR EXPANSION - CHROME PLATE/17-4 PH STAINLESS STEEL

The heat generated by polishing raises the temperature. The stainless expands much more than the chromium. The chrome plate, while hard, has little ductility and separates between the dendrites which form the plate.
