Can Steam with high pressure air be effective?

Can Steam with high pressure air be effective?

Can Steam with high pressure air be effective?

(OP)
I want to use high pressure steam(50 bar, 280 degree cel.) in a reactor to mix with waste,
can we achieve the same effectivity as that of the steam with the mixture of inferior steam and pressurised air?
(There is a possibility that the steam might condense as it comes into contact with the air but for reducing this possibility we can preheat the air so that steam quality and its temp. is not affected)

RE: Can Steam with high pressure air be effective?

Reactor for heating waste? preheat the air to prevent condensation?? You need a plate heat exchanger to heat up the waste on one side and high pressure steam on the other side. You need also to condensate the steam for feasibility, but you can always recycle your condensate in the boiler. What are you trying to achieve?

RE: Can Steam with high pressure air be effective?

If you have the high pressure steam already available, use it. You've already paid for the high energy, high temperature, highly expensive steam.

If you don't have steam on site, then you will be paying (a lot) for the electricity and compressor run time to compress low pressure air into high pressure air.

RE: Can Steam with high pressure air be effective?

Hint: The air will be cold.

Do you want a high pressure but cold gas that doesn't condense into a low volume, low temperature fluid;
or a high pressure high temperature gas that does condenses;
or a high temperature high energy gas mix that you can't mix into your condensate water;

RE: Can Steam with high pressure air be effective?

Steam has unique qualities not comparable with air. If your reacting is suppose to be steam you use steam. This is a question of chemical engineering. Not pressure vessels. I have been in both sides and learned the diff. If you lower your steam pressure Your option may be to superheat the steam. Good luck. General boiler.
