Promoting Idealized Parts

Promoting Idealized Parts

Promoting Idealized Parts

(OP)
Trying to understand the logic behind having to manually promote an idealized part to enable modifications.

Why would you ever NOT want to promote an idealized part ? i.e. why aren't they promoted by default ?

Cheers
Neil

RE: Promoting Idealized Parts

Not exactly sure what you mean by an "idealized" part. Could you provide a bit more background details? Also, you seem a bit disappointed that some sort of 'automatic' promotion did not take place. Where during your workflow would you have expected something like this to have occurred?

In a NX Advanced Simulation FEM idealized parts can be created from the master model to allow modification/simplifications using the synchronous and model prep tools without effecting the master model. I would typically use this to make a model better suited to meshing and the application of loads and boundary conditions.

Without promoting or wave linking the idealized part however it can't be modified.

RE: Promoting Idealized Parts

Sorry, I'm not really experienced using the NX CAE tools, but over on the CAD side, we often have an option, when working in context of an Assembly, to perform modeling operations which will automatically create the necessary Promoted or WAVE-linked bodies/objects behind the scenes as it were (note that this behavior is optional and can be disabled in Customer Defaults by organizations that would like to better control when and if interpart links are created automatically since they do require additional care in managing these relationships across an enterprise).

Again, I can't speak directly to NX CAE, but such workflows are supported at least in the NX CAD and even to some extent in the NX CAM world. Perhaps an NX CAE expert could shed some light on this...
