Component Scaling

Component Scaling

Component Scaling

(OP)
I deal with plastic parts all the time, and a specific shrink needs to be applied to each part, shrinkage. Scale depends on the type of material, cooling, etc. Now, I realize there are more ways to skin a cat than one, usually I will statically transform-scale a part at a body line. The reason for this, instead of using scale body, is because the customer will supply a wireframe parting line that we must follow, and it is derived from the part itself (parting edges, split faces..). I do reposition the part as an assembly component using "move" to rotate, and reposition to where I want the part to be in the mold. Seems to me a scale option here would be nice as well. Any plans for this in the future? Or is there something im missing that I can do this now?

RE: Component Scaling

There are both Scale Body and Local Scale commands in NX that will do what you want.
You may want to look into the Mold-Wizard option in NX

All that you mention is possible in NX

RE: Component Scaling

I think the question is that Agrezar wants to perform the scaling in the context of an Assembly.

After positioning the Component to where you want it, simply Promote the solid body into the 'Assembly' and then perform the scaling operation, using whatever NX tools are applicable (as mentioned by jerry1423), on the promoted body.

RE: Component Scaling

I realize I can use scale body on a promoted part, but again, that only takes care of the solid and not the wireframe unfortunately. I need this wireframe for visual, and sometimes actually use it for parting line generation (seal off). Also to further the point of the wireframe, I must follow it, else I have to send back anything modified to initial company wanting this part mass produced, ie Ford, GM.. and this needs to be in car position, not mold position. I haven't looked into Mold wizard for this.

RE: Component Scaling

There is also engraving wireframe that I need scaled as well, so it not just the parting line that's an issue here. So what im gathering, in stuck using a static transformation scale at the original part level for shrinkage, and anytime I need to send back data, I have to scale back to original.
