Genset Overload

Genset Overload

Genset Overload

(OP)
We have a 1MW natural gas genset connected to the plant load via a breaker type ATS and to a load bank via a 1600A breaker. It is intended to keep the load bank breaker closed in order to keep the genset loaded to at least 50%. Load bank loads will adjust automatically in steps depending on the loading conditions.

There is a chance where the genset could be in testing and normal power is lost in which case the genset would be briefly overloaded. The genset output breaker is 2000A.... I expect that the genset would stall before the breaker opens. Either way, does anyone see a problem beyond the inconvenience of having to close the breaker or restart the genset?
