Slab Design help

Slab Design help

(OP)
My boss wanted me to come up with a preliminary cross section of a concrete slab. (Subbase and base, or just on grade).

Slab will support 40 ton dump trucks and front end loaders. I calculated the wheel loads from both based on specifications of the equipment.
I'm a civil E.I. and structural is not my specialty. Can anyone break down the steps required to compute the slab and/or subbase thickness.

I've got a pavement design textbook (I did take the class in school) and "Concrete floor slabs on grade subjected to heavy loads" manual.

Any help it much appreciated!

Once I calculate my wheel loads, I'm just unsure where to go from there to determine a slab thickness..

RE: Slab Design help

there are lots of design charts out there for slabs on grade. If you search this site you might find some useful references (I think there have been some recent discussions on the topic). Some organizations that might help ----> ACI, PCA, US Army Corps

I believe the next two parameters you need to define are your contact area for the wheels and the modulus of subgrade reaction.

I believe the next two parameters you need to define are your contact area for the wheels and the modulus of subgrade reaction.

I've found both of these parameters and ended up with a pressure exerted by the wheel on the concrete. Also, my modulus of subgrade,k is 200 kci.

It's the steps that follow that i'm unsure of.

Great help with the file that were sent. Thanks a bunch! That's awesome stuff.
