Welding current on PQR for pulsed welding

Welding current on PQR for pulsed welding

Welding current on PQR for pulsed welding

(OP)
If pulsed welding is used for GTAW, such as 170A/70A (170 is peak and 70A is background current) is the min pulsed current and 300A/250A is the max pulsed current used for PQR test coupon, what current range should be put on the PQR if the code is per ASME SEC IX? 170-300A or 70-300A? or Calculating the average of the current range used and put on the PQR?

RE: Welding current on PQR for pulsed welding

The average wouldn't do you much good now would it? Why not put max/min values and give the welders all the information that they need to have?

RE: Welding current on PQR for pulsed welding

If the WPS is impact qualified you need to review QW409.1

RE: Welding current on PQR for pulsed welding

I agree with weldtek. Review the requirements in QW409.1. I perform numerous pulse welding processes in which I must calculate average currents from different waveforms, the code spells out all the required steps.
