Tensor of Inertia - Wrong Results

Tensor of Inertia - Wrong Results

Tensor of Inertia - Wrong Results

(OP)
Hello for all!!!

Solidworks calculates wrong results for the tensor of inertia of a hexahedron when it is submitted to a general rotation according to the principal axes of inertia. The principal directions of inertia are incorrect as well as the values of the principal inertias. The results are also inconsistent according to mathmatics rules based on advanced linear algebra.

If the coordinate system is alligned with the principal axes the results is correct as a particular case of the problem.

I validated the solution of the problem using analytical calculation and Pro-engineer calculations. Both methods gave the same correct results.

So, engineers must be very careful when calculating tensors of inertia.
