How to measure rotation angle in a steel base plate ?
How to measure rotation angle in a steel base plate ?
(OP)
Dear all
I'm modelling a Steel column base plate subjected to Moment ,the model is fine and output results are quite reasonable.
Now I'm validating the Model with Experimental test results that have Moment - versus - rotational angle in radians plotted in curves.
so the question is :
Is it possible to obtain the base plate rotational angle at a certain vertical cross section or not ?
if not, shall I start to calculate this rotational angle manually (which might be quite inaccurate) ?
Thank you in advance
Regards.

Thank you very much for caring
The question is how to obtain an angle of rotation of the base plate ?
I can get Stresses, Deformed shapes and some (not very useful) plots
but I can't find where to obtain a rotational angle
is it possible to obtain such rotational angle or shall I calculate it manually ?
Thank you again
Regards.

If, for some reason, you are modeling the plate with solid elements and you don't have nodal rotation:
An easy solution is to overlay your surface with a shell with almost 0 thickness with the same nodes as your structure.
Or you could tie a reference point to where you want, or connect some nodes with (cartesian/cardan) connectors and ask for CUR output.
