why cellulose coated electrodes are being for root run on pipelines, anybody can explain the logic behind it

Also, it takes a higher level of skill to place a root with LH w/o imparting excessive imperfections.

Fast freezing properties plus the CO2 protective shielding gas formed permit greater latitude in manipulation of the electrode by the welder.

As stated above, deep penetration, downhill capable, and deposition rate. The rods also do not require heating.

However, they are not just for root pass. Frequently, fill and cap passes are also welded with appropriate cellulosic electrodes.

As a welder, the fast freezing characteristic is what makes the electrode most useful for open root applications. This allows for variations in fitup to be overcome by manipulation. I have previously qualified for open roots with 7018 and 3xx-16 electrodes. Without a remote amperage control or extremely consistent fitup, it's extremely difficult to get a satisfactory root pass.

If I could get ss electrodes that welded like cellulose electrodes id have it made.

Because the best current cellulose bead rods, Lincoln 6010+ and 6P+, are specifically designed for open butt V pipe welds, uphill or down. Many, many decades of refinement have made those rods what they are. And they're the best choice given quality and production hands down, within the pipe grades they are applicable to.

Same with 70+ and 8P+, the best downhill rods available for hot pass/fill/cap.

Fast and economical to the contractor, good operator appeal to the welder, decent price for the owner.

Until better options come along those will be king in cross country mainline construction from the standpoint of the welder, the contractor and the owner.

Basic coated with low hydrogen to avoid hydrogen related issues in multipass welding.

How would one maintain the rods at the appropriate temperature in the field? Cross country pipeline rigs are usually not equipped with rod ovens.

vacu packs. But that doesn't mean I concur with pandithan's statement.
