Anybody know the relationship between charpy impact energy and charpy lateral expansion. Pls show to me.
Because we had PQR qualified 2 year ago lack of lateral expansion information but value impact above 50J, now spec require add value lateral expansion. How can show envidence this PQR can cover.

RE: The relationship between charpy impact energy and charpy lateral expansion

You cannot determine or re-construct mils lateral expansion (MLE) from only CVN impact values because they are unique to the fracture behavior of the steel. The mils lateral expansion relates to how the specimen locally deforms under impact loading. The mils lateral expansion is only obtained from an actual broken CVN impact specimen. So, if you only have CVN values with no MLE or someone forgot to obtain the values you are out of luck unless you have the previous broken CVN specimens.

Thuhuongengineer,
Assuming the specification referenced is the Purchaser's and it does not provide a minimum L.E.requirement, provide the TWI data to the Purchaser. If he is unimpressed, additionally qualify the WPS and record absorbed energy, L.E. and % shear.
