Gaming floor live load

Gaming floor live load

Gaming floor live load

(OP)
I am in the process of laying out members for a gaming floor in a casino and trying to determine if the minimum ASCE and IBC live loading criteria is sufficient for this type of space. Although ASCE minimum live loading calls for 100 psf live load for assembly areas, is there a more prudent live load to use above 100 psf?

jdelacruz,

In looking at Table 1607.1 in the 2006 IBC,
the maximum uniform load that can be applied
is for Stages & Platforms, ..125 psf.

May I ask why you would want more than 100
psf? Special conditions present, ..more
equipment with concentrated loads, other?
Thanks!

RE: Gaming floor live load

As I just said in another post, look at physical realities. 100 psf is an incredibly heavy load to impose on a floor that must have circulation space, gaming tables, chairs, etc. If you want to do it with people, you need a 200lb man in every single 2'x1' space in the room. How did they get in there? How do they raise their martini glasses to their lips? How did the waiter get the martini to them? Are they holding the gaming tables above their heads? 100psf is conservative.

@jdelacruz> Try thread507-312421: Weight Room Live Loads.
woodman88 had posted a very useful link to Whole Building Design Guide web site. See if that would help. The web site provides guidelines on live load
based on use.
