Spacing between RTJ flanges with style R oval gasket

Spacing between RTJ flanges with style R oval gasket

Spacing between RTJ flanges with style R oval gasket

(OP)
Hello everyone,

After Googling, I still can't get the recommended spacing for different size and pressure rating of RTJ flanges using R type gasket. I just know there is no spacing between RTJ flange with BX type gasket. For R type gasket, there should be a spacing between RTJ flanges. We use 1" 2500# RTJ flange with style R oval gasket in my project. Any comments are appriciated.

RE: Spacing between RTJ flanges with style R oval gasket

You need to gat a copy of ASME B 16.5 to get all the required dimensions.

Page 66 note that the "approximate" clearence between 1" #2500 flangesis 4mm regardless of type of gasket.

You need to be aware of possible crevice corroision using RTJ flanges if you have corrosive fluid. I have often had to inconel face RTJ flanges to avoid this as they dont' seal on the flange faces like the BX and NORSOK flanges do.

API-6A will provide standoff of all ring gaskets. Please note BX gaskets can have a space between flange.
Also R and RX have different spacing.

Simon 68, are you using API 6A flanges or B 16.5??

Thanks for your comments. We use 16.5 flange, WN, Sch160.

Thought that was where your question was coming from. If you like having no gap you could also consider NORSOK L-005 compact flanges as they tighten up flush and are smaller than 16.5 flanges
