Bend vs rolled cone in fatigue

Bend vs rolled cone in fatigue

Bend vs rolled cone in fatigue

(OP)
Hi,
I have a cone in my div 1 pressure vessel and I was asked if it was possible to have the cone made by bending instead of rolling. Since this vessel will have many cycles (±400,000), I have doubts that it would be advantageous since each bend should be considered as peaking and they would have to respect small tolerances on each bend (like the procedure in div 2 for longitudinal weld).

Comments?

Thanks,
Biss

RE: Bend vs rolled cone in fatigue

This is a subject you need to discuss with your fabricator. Whilst a crude example with widely spaced bends would be considered peaking.
some fabricators use die sets with closely spaced brake hits that are virtually impossible to tell from a rolled part.
