Saudi Arabia civil site design standards?

Saudi Arabia civil site design standards?

Saudi Arabia civil site design standards?

(OP)
I may have an opportunity to do the civil site portion of a job in Saudi Arabia. Wondering what information is available on the design standards I'd have to meet, regulatory agencies involved, procedures, etc. Any guidance?

RE: Saudi Arabia civil site design standards?

Not sure what agency it would be for but for work on military bases in Afghanistan we used Army Corps Afghan specific design guidelines as well as Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS). My guess would be UFGS documents. We did have our worked reviewed by a company with a title II contract whose comments we had to address. Drainage software didn't seem to matter as long as it was legit, we used HydroCAD. Water Calcs done with EPANET. Sanitary Sewer calcs done with ACADs add on sanitary/storm sewer software. If your doing any paving (gravel or asphalt) we found PCASE software usage was required. Written reports were required for all these calculations. UFGS covers water and sewer design guidelines along with some requirements mentioned in the Scope of Work documents, there was an Afghan Specific Corps document on drainage calculations and septic drainfield design. I believe we had a geotech report provided that related the max cut/fill slopes and a report provided that determined infiltration rates.

RE: Saudi Arabia civil site design standards?

main agencies are
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Royal Commission(s)
Saudi Aramco

each will have there own requirements and may be established for each project. Hopefully you are working with a local consultant, based in the Kingdom that can be your point man.

Otherwise, if standards are not spelled out, then you should propose standards for their approval in the design basis report.

Hmm, an ex-colleague is is part of the PMT for a flood control project in Jeddah. Program tasks include developing the City Storm Water Masterplan.

RE: Saudi Arabia civil site design standards?

Any particular client?

Independent events are seldomly independent.

I'll know more later. Looks like a Brit international school, so there might be some standards they want me to follow as well.

RE: Saudi Arabia civil site design standards?

IN my experience it may well depend on the client. Locally produced standards (in Qatar they have Qatar Construction Standards QCS) usually re-hash variety of major internationnal standards and are continually being updated and refined, particularly given the boom in international construction in the middle east countries in recent years.

i'd worry about the design standards when you get there, more significant concern is whether you're prepared for life in KSA?! It certainly isnt for everyone............!
