Solid body color
Solid body color
(OP)
When working with a machined part I like to have the raw material a solid color and then make all of the machining steps a different color so that when the machining steps are subtracted they are easy to visually verify that they are done. After completing a part our standard procedure is to turn a part a solid color before releasing it. Is there a way to control the color change so that history of the part could be stepped back and the 2 color raw material and machining steps could be seen?

RE: Solid body color
What NX version you are on? Starting NX8.5 different color can be assigned to different features (so for example if the raw part is assigned some particular color then all the opertions (pocket, boss other boolean operations) can be assigned a different color and at any point of time you can step back and see the original color (if you used feature color to specify the raw material)

RE: Solid body color
It is simple.Select the feature from the part navigator .right click and set the feature color. The best thing is that if you set the feature color specifically and some user unintentionally tries to change the display color of the complete solid then this color will apply to only those regions where you have not appled any specific feature color (for the rest this coloring schema will be over-ridden)

RE: Solid body color
In NX7.5 follow the steps below to change feature colours...
1, Roll Model Back prior to Boolean.
2, Edit > Object Display (Cntrl+J)
3, Set Selection Filter to Faces
4, Select the faces of the cutting object that will be subtracted from the model. ( Hide the raw material body then rectangular/lasso select the required faces)
5, Choose required colour
6, OK
7, Roll Model forward to show Boolean completed
Done
NX will when selecting Faces on the Tool Body, hold the colour in object display when the body is subtracted from Target Solid
Hope this helps
