Fully fixed 3D frame + Time history load (El Centro) =0.006m Absolute displacement at ground joint??

Fully fixed 3D frame + Time history load (El Centro) =0.006m Absolute displacement at ground joint??

Fully fixed 3D frame + Time history load (El Centro) =0.006m Absolute displacement at ground joint??

I am not getting 0 as my absolute displacement for joint 1 in my simple 1-storey 3D frame structure when I apply an earthquake load, rather I am getting 60mm in the U1 direction (the rest are 0).
The frame is fully restrained.

I am new to SAP2000, can somebody please explain what I am doing wrong? Is it wrong?

^^ I should say, the problem of not getting 0 applies to all 4 of the base joints and not just joint 1.

RE: Fully fixed 3D frame + Time history load (El Centro) =0.006m Absolute displacement at ground joint??

Did you apply horizontal restraints (TX,TY) to all base joints?

Johnbridge231, thanks for the response. Yes the structure is fully restrained, although I'll mention the way it was restrained (via Define->Joint restraints) in case there is some other way I don't know about (I'm still quite new to the programme).

Thanks

THis sounds weird. Can you upload a link to your model?

Thanks for your reply. I have uploaded the file to 2shared:

The relative displacements, deemed just "Displacements" in the table look fine, its just the absolute displacements which is a cause for concern.

thanks again

The 2shared site requires additional software to download. Why not upload using eng-tips tools?
