NX 7.5 What is Master Model Assembly?

NX 7.5 What is Master Model Assembly?

(OP)
Hello Everyone,

New to the forum, I'm a new drafter at a gear company. I've been told to look into master model assembly, but can't seem to find too much info on the topic. I have a NX7 book by Tickoo but no help there either. Anyone know what this concept is and how it works?

Also, is there a good site with basic drafting info on NX7.5? Just looking for a good reference for material on the program.

Thanks,

Josh

RE: NX 7.5 What is Master Model Assembly?

The term 'Master Model' refers the the idea that the detailed part or even an assembly is considered a 'master model' and therefore when you create a Drawing or perform a manufacturing operation, what you do is create a new 'Assembly' where the 'master model' is a 'Component' and then you create your Drawings or create your toolpaths in these files rather than directly in the 'master model' files. This allows the same 'master model' to be used in both a Drawing and an NC file without having to duplicate the 'Master Model' data. It also allows one person to be working on the 'master model' files while someone else can be setting up the Drawing or preparing machine the parts without having to be working all in the same file. It also helps to keep different downstream data, like Drawing and manufacturing set-ups in separate files so that they can be better managed.

Note that if you use the proper Drawing and Manufacturing templates this Master Model 'assembly' relationships are established automatically by the system. Also, if you're running NX under Teamcenter you can automatically manage these file relationships there as well.

Do you have experience with any other 3D CAD system?

Ok, thanks for the response.

I do have experience with SolidWorks as well.

Is there a site with good information on NX7.5?

Thanks,

Josh

It only takes one sentance to explain it, but it can take a lot of skill and planning to have a master modeling concept work efficiently and to its full potential.
