Solidworks Assembly Model(s)/Components To UG/NX7 Translation?

Solidworks Assembly Model(s)/Components To UG/NX7 Translation?

Solidworks Assembly Model(s)/Components To UG/NX7 Translation?

(OP)
Did the search and I think I know the answer, but thought I would ask anyway.

We run TCE alongside UG/NX7 and are considering having an outside source do some design and drawings for us in Solidworks. In the end we would want to take those assembly and componet models along with their drawings and bring them into UG/NX7.

Is this possible at all or are we going to have to go through the Parasolid route with the solid models they create, reassemble them, and then do our own UG/NX7 drawing?

Any guidence will be greatly appreciated with this.

Thank you,
Gary Ashby

RE: Solidworks Assembly Model(s)/Components To UG/NX7 Translation?

First, are you running NX 7.0 or NX NX 7.5?

And, yes, you can open an SolidWorks Assembly directly in NX and it will sort everything out for you and convert it into a valid NX assembly.

We are running NX7.5.5.4 and thanks for the Solidworks to NX compatibility information.

1.) Will I have to open the SolidWorks assembly in Native or TCE?

2.) Is it possible to use any information from the SolidWorks drawing?

3.) By your comment about a "valid NX assembly", can I hope to have any parametrics on the translated models?

Thanks again for you assistance,
Gary

RE: Solidworks Assembly Model(s)/Components To UG/NX7 Translation?

I can't really comment on the native versus TC issue, however for the rest of the questions, I think you will find that only the solid models will be converted. When I said 'valid assembly' I meant that the structure of the assembly would be maintained with each part having it's own Part file and that the Assembly would consist of Components. However, the models will be dumb in that there will be no feature or parametric data and that there will be no constraints in the assembly. The piece parts should all be in the correct spatial locations but there will be no relationships to the other parts, just that they will be where they're supposed to be.
