for semi-automatic/automatic welding, UG-84(i)(3)(a)(1) requires one product test plate (PTP) per WPS used for category A or B joints per welding position.
We have to do semi-automatic welding (FCAW)using one WPS for all A and B in Vertical Up and Flat positions, do we need 2 PTP's, although Vertical Up position qualifies for all positions when impact testing is a requirement, it does not make a sense to me that we need one PTP for flat position whereas one PTP for V-Up is already taken.

I read through UG-84 (i) 3 and it is clear that an impact test plate for Cat A and B joints is needed for each position employed in production welding if an automatic or semi-automatic welding process is used.
