abaqus element warning limit and accuracy of results

(OP)
hi all,

i have a model with a fillet and i am finding it tough to mesh with hex element within the limits of aspect ratio<5, 45< corner angle < 135 for the region. unfortunately my area of interest is also the same portion. I was wondering how much will these warning elements affect the results.

is there any paper where such study has been carried out? BTW i am carrying static & transient runs with second order Hex elements and no contacts.

thanks,

RE: abaqus element warning limit and accuracy of results

The best way I've found to check the mesh is to look at the contours around these 'bad' elements. If the contours appear inconsistent with nearby results then they're probably affecting the results and you should look again at your meshing technique, or internal partitions you may have. Generally I've found they'd have to be very badly shaped in order to have a significant affect on the results. Try toggling the meshing technique or repartitioning the surface to get a more consistent mesh if it appears to affect the results.
