5psi shipping blind for Greyloc hub

5psi shipping blind for Greyloc hub

(OP)
Hey everyone,

I've been wracking my mind for a while, but am having trouble coming up with the simplest solution for providing a 5psi temporary shipping blind for a Greyloc fitting. I'm hoping someone has an ingenious simple solution.

The client requires a 5psi nitrogen pad during shipment. This is a piping system that will have to be partially disassembled for shipment, which will leave a number of Greyloc fittings exposed. I have to come up with a way to put a temporary blind on these Greyloc fittings. The easiest solution would be to buy a Greyloc blind, but those fittings are very expensive, and we'd like to do something simple in-house.

Has anyone ever run into this problem?

Thank you,
Marty

RE: 5psi shipping blind for Greyloc hub

Machine a piece of plate or bar with the same thickness and basic taper as the backside of the Grayloc hub, where it mates to the Grayloc clamp. Replace the expensive metal seal ring with a RUBBER gasket between the faces of the two parts, treating it like a massively over-designed sanitary (triclamp) fitting. Voila! At 5 psi, assuming these aren't gigantic hubs, you could even make that blind/blank out of PVC.
