Side Seat Bracket Design

Side Seat Bracket Design

Side Seat Bracket Design

(OP)
Hello folks,

I'm wondering if there are any design references for the design of a stiffened seat bracket that is connected to the flange of a column and is used to support a beam running parallel to the flange. It is like the case in AISC 13th (10-93) except the beam to be supported is running into the page.

I am designing a beam to support the weight of cladding above a louver and I am running horizontal tubes from column to column to be supported on seats at each column.

RE: Side Seat Bracket Design

I don't know if there are any design references. I doubt it as there seems to be nothing unusual about it. Why would you be seeking references?

RE: Side Seat Bracket Design

Why would the seat design be any different based on the direction of the beam span? A force is a force.

I understand. Thanks.

RE: Side Seat Bracket Design

While I agree with the design of the seat remains the same. I can see that if the column web was thin, you may have a problem with the design of the seat as it may want to "punch" through the column web. Is this what you concern is?

RE: Side Seat Bracket Design

SteelPE,
Why would punching of the web be a problem? The seat is on the flange.
