Request for good Earthwork Software

Request for good Earthwork Software

(OP)
Hi there,

I am looking for any good software which can actually do the calculation of the volume of the soil cut and fill.

Has anyone got good reccommendationon that ? Will be very grateful if someone can provide me the name of the software. Thanks.

RE: Request for good Earthwork Software

I am sure that Autocad civil 3d can do it, but a bit pricey (unless you go the piratebay route)

I use ModelMaker www.modelmaker.co.za and for roads RoadMaker. Not as sophisticated, and takes a bit of time to get to grips with the program, but they have very good customer support (small company and respond quickly)
May be best to also talk to your Surveyor to tell you what software they work on, will be easier if you can tie in easily with them

RE: Request for good Earthwork Software

I use Carlson Software Civil Design products (http://www.carlsonsw.com/). They also have construction oriented products.

Are you looking for something on the design end (where you already have surface models in CAD) or take-off end of things (where you are working from paper plans)?

There are numerous products out there if you search for "site construction estimating software".

I often hear of contractors using a product called Agtek which has been around a long time, but I have no idea of the cost.

RE: Request for good Earthwork Software

I've used paydirt and I really like it. It's easy to use. I'm not sure of the pricing though.

RE: Request for good Earthwork Software

AGTEK's earthwork takeoff and modeling software has been popular with earthmoving contractors for more than 30 years. The latest AGTEK products are powerful and sophisticated but not terribly hard to learn. AGTEK does have "Cadillac" pricing but you can buy just the modules you actually need (site grading, roads, utilities, staking/grade control, haul tracking/production analysis, etc.). Some short video demonstrations are available on AGTEK's website at http://www.agtek.com and there is an independent AGTEK User Group on LinkedIn at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=2015287. If you are a contractor, you should at least take a look at AGTEK; on the other hand, if you are a designer, you may be more comfortable with a CAD-based application like Civil 3D or Carlson. I believe Trimble has retired Paydirt (I used Paydirt many years ago--before Trimble acquired the product--and, after a very bad experience with it, I could never fully trust the quantities that it gave me and my employer ended-up switching to AGTEK).
