Indexing fixture

Indexing fixture

(OP)
I'm looking to replace our current pneumatic indexer with something less bulky. See attached picture for our current indexer used. The fixture you see in the picture is permanent. The piece is loaded onto the steel fixture and is rotated throughout the building process. The indexer must be capable of holding a 250 lbs radial load, rotating 360 degrees to any location. This is not an automated process, so precision is not at all important. Any leads to some good companies? Thanks in advanced.

RE: Indexing fixture

I'm not sure you would be able find something "off the shelf" that would meet your needs. But any good system integrator / machine designer would be able to design something to suit your needs. The real challenge is for you to clearly define and specify your requirements in writing so that the vendor will know what is really required.
  • Shape of part or parts (CAD files provided?)
  • Mounting requirements. Quick connect or bolted?
  • "Radial Load" or "Overhang load" ?
  • Mass of part or parts.
  • Powered rotation or not?
  • "less bulky" means exactly what?"
  • "indexer" means what? Move to a number of radial positions? Or infinitely variable?
  • ...and so on and so forth.

RE: Indexing fixture

Your indexer isn't very pretty, but it looks perfectly functional and very robust. You have about ten times more horsepower than you need to rotate your indexer.
