slope monitoring

(OP)
Hello,

I have been working on the monitoring system for 30 m high slope.

The software we use presents data such as distance, zenith and direction, all them measured in milimiters (mm).

The user manual doesnt provide the best information about this. I think i understand the distance plot which could be interpreted as the difference between the original position and the current position. About the zenith and direction I have been wondering if anyone knows any information about this as It has been very difficult to interpret by the engineers of this project.

Thanks

RE: slope monitoring

What kind of monitoring are you doing? Surface monuments and traditional survey? Slope inclinometers?

You need to post more information on the kind of monitoring you are doing.

I am doing surface monuments and I survey the prisms with a total station.

Any other information?

RE: slope monitoring

First I suggest getting an experienced geotechnical engineering team inplace to evaluate the slope and monitoring plan.

Second, reduce the data to x, y, and z (northing, easting, and elevation)then compare each set of readings to the baseline (first set of readings). That will tell you how much the slope is moving in each direction.

Beyond that, it all depends on the geometry of the slide and monitoring points.

Also, I'm confused by your comment about "... the software..."; what software?

RE: slope monitoring

any decent survey text will fully explain the concepts of geodesy. Whoever is doing the surveying could reduce the data for you. Hopefully you have a licensed surveyor doing the work for you.

The software is called MS3 by Leica. I read zenith refers to the difference in elevation whereas direction refers to the horizontal distance difference. Now the last thing i did was to plot 2 simple 3d points and compute these parameters in Autocad, still I haven't got the same values as the ones provided by the software.

I simply used the difference between 2 3D points formula.

cvg so far i am the one in charge of all this.

RE: slope monitoring

if you are in charge, than hire a surveyor

RE: slope monitoring

I have to agree with cvg, if you are asking these kinds of questions you are not qualified by exerience or education for the task at hand. Part of learning is knowing when you need help. While some help can be obtained in a location such as these forms, this is not one of them.

Good luck to you.
