bending parts in solid edge

bending parts in solid edge

bending parts in solid edge

(OP)
Hi,
I've made an extrusion as a part file and added a cut-out for bending. Now I know how to switch from part to part sheet metal to reveal the bending option but that doesn't work. Is there another way to add a bend to an extrusion?
Thanks in advance!
Andy

RE: bending parts in solid edge

Did you create a .par or a .psm? It's easiest if you create a .psm, then switch to part and make your extrusions. You can then switch back to sheet metal.

The only way I know of transforming a .par to a sheet metal is by transforming it into a synchronous sheet metal.

I've started with a .par file. Interesting... So maybe starting with a .psm file and switching to .par could solve the problem...
Gonna try this one and let you know! :)
Thanks!

Doesn't work... :)
How do you transform a part to a synchronous sheet metal?
Grtz,
A

RE: bending parts in solid edge

If it's a .par file, you click on the SE button top left and click "transform to synchronous sheet metal" (seventh option down)

RE: bending parts in solid edge

The part has to have a uniform thickness to be a sheet metal part.
Can you post the part or a picture of it and a description of what you are trying to do

Hi,
attached you'll find the extrusion and details of the cut out (where the bend should come). Of course, the whole part isn't uniform thickness but I've created a uniform thickness where the bend will come so technically, this should be possible... Solid Edge doesn't think this way though... :)

RE: bending parts in solid edge

You can't add a bend to that part.
Solid Edge has no facility to that.
I suggest you re-create the part as a swept protrusion, or as a frame in an assembly model.

Mmmh, I was hoping that it could be possible in SE...
The thing is that I want the unbended part for production purposes. They need to see how the cut-out looks like and they also need to know the exact place of the bend...
Okay, thanks for helping!

And of course I need the bended part to use it in the assembly drawings... Sigh... :)

RE: bending parts in solid edge

Can't you make a tab in .psm, match the thickness to the height of your model's cross section and match length and width to the cross section's width and length of the profile. Then cut your tab lengthwise so you get your cross section and then bend the whole thing?

Ah no, I just tried that...

Thanks for trying! :)
Maybe only using .psm for the simple part that needs to bend and then add .par files to it with an assembly to create the whole extrusion. If I get the constraints a little bit okay, than it should be possible to unbend/bend the .psm part and let all the .par added parts follow the bend/unbend action... Confusing huh...or not? :)
