multilayer material photoelasticity measurement

Hi,

i'm in an internship, and i want to study the stress destribtuion with photoelasticity method, but my problem is that the material that i have is not homogenious but there ares two layers. I can do the measurement for the two material separated, but i dont know how to do that for my layared material.

anyone have an idea about how to do photoelasticity measurement for multilayere materials ?

Thanks.

RE: multilayer material photoelasticity measurement

I would suggest that you contact the manufacturer/supplier of the equipment and materials. The success will depend on the resolution capability of both the imaging device and the emulsion used.

RE: multilayer material photoelasticity measurement

What are the materials and how are they jointed at their faying surface? What is the geometry and dimensions of this thing? What are the loads and how are they applied?

Thanks for your response.

Ron:
there is no manufacturer, i should create a polariscope to do this job, but theoretically i dont know how to do the measurement when having two layers of differente materials.

dhengr:
the geometry is a plate (40cm*20cm)
the layers are : glass (4mm), EVA (plastic film) (1mm), glass (4mm).
and we have a traction of 0.5kN.

anyone have an idea ?
