Does anyone know what is the function of stress-relief-mastic and nested-conductor-tubes in MV (36 kV) cable joints? Thanks for help!

RE: MV Cable

See:
http://www.te.com/us/en/industries/energy/pdf/5567...
in page 3 pos.7 you can see the nested [3 tubes] used to hold in place the PILC armored cable.
Also in order to deviate the electric field intensity in order to avoid insulation stress a stress relief mastic [SRM] is wrapped on the conductor [as shown].

RE: MV Cable

Sorry! Wrong link, but the principle is the same:
The three tubes-the smallest is the Black Stress Control Tube, the middle is Red Insulating Tube and the largest Black/Red Dual Layer Tube-are at the beginning "nested" not far from the connection place and will be shrunk one-by-one as indicated. The SRM will fill the voids creating a smooth surface in order to apply the tubes

So does it mean that only black tube is stress control tube?

RE: MV Cable

The main stress control-deviation of the field force line from radial to longitudinal-it is the Black Stress Control Tube job. But the SRM will reduce the stress produce at the edge of the connector, conductor or other prominences [screws or else] and by filling the air voids eliminates the partial discharge, which could occur in the air void and so degrade the insulation.
