Low Pressure Air Line - Stainless Steel

Low Pressure Air Line - Stainless Steel

Low Pressure Air Line - Stainless Steel

(OP)
I am trying to compose a letter to an engineer requesting that they consider the use of "as-welded" stainless steel 316L pipe and fittings for low pressure air pipe lines utilized in a wastewater treatment plant, in lieu of seamless. The temperature is 280 deg F or less with a test pressure of 50 PSI. The lines are 12" NPS or less stainless steel. Any suggestions or points to make?

RE: Low Pressure Air Line - Stainless Steel

This application sounds like blower air for a biological reactor. Spiral wound stainless teel is routinely used for such applications in Sydney Water Corporation.

Sorry guys. Agitation Air lines in a WWTP. 30 PSI test pressure.

RE: Low Pressure Air Line - Stainless Steel

No problem using SWSS or ERW up to much higher pressures for such service. You should however consider a duplex stainless as you may get stress corrosion cracking with the high chlorides seen in WWTPs. SAF 2205 would be a better choice than 316L. www.nidi.org has some very good articles on such applications.
