Correct Bevel on Tangential Nozzle

Correct Bevel on Tangential Nozzle

Correct Bevel on Tangential Nozzle

(OP)
I'm using UW16.1(a) which is a full penetration through the outside of nozzle, my question is how do you determine the degree of bevel required to be applied to the nozzle on a tangential weld?

RE: Correct Bevel on Tangential Nozzle

(OP)
My problem is, since the nozzle that the head is in changes slope (2:1 head) from the bottom of the nozzle to the top, the 37.5 degree bevel that would normally be put on it changes and I'm not sure exactly where this bevel is suppose to be and to what degree...it appears that on one side the bevel is straight down and on the other side (more towards the center of the head) the bevel is at an extreme angle, so finding out the actual correct size of angle of these at every given point is my issue.... Is this a QC issue, ie part of the weld procedure (a range of acceptable bevel angles?, does the measurement of the bevel changes with the head slope (ie what point would you measure the bevel from)? Or is there a portion in the code (Section VIII or IX or other) that dictates the degree of bevel needed (particularly for these fit ups that are difficult to achieve)?

RE: Correct Bevel on Tangential Nozzle

Once you cut out the oversize hole for the tangential nozzle, you should be able to grind( I am assuming) grinding) a 37.5 degree bevel around that hole for the full penetration weld to the nozzle.
