Failure when converting units to a part file

Failure when converting units to a part file

Failure when converting units to a part file

(OP)
Hello All,

I am working on a project that will need to go overseas and need to convert the units of the entire part to mm. I have used the ug_convert_part.exe prompt before with mixed results. Today it is not cooperating. (NOTE: It has not been used on this part). At first I got a 'conversion failure' due to a list of expressions, all of which were not constant variables but quotients.
(IE "P42=25.75/2-.110"
"p42 references a number with unknow dimensionality.")
I went in and substituted the quotients with actual values and tried the conversion again. The previously listed errors are no more but the conversion still fails and it doesn't offer me an explination as to why. I have not yet been able to figure out why the conversion process is hit/miss. Does anyone have any suggestions as to red flags or prerequisets to look out for when trying to convert the units?

RE: Failure when converting units to a part file

What version of NX is the file that you are converting ?
What version of NX is the file being converted to ?

RE: Failure when converting units to a part file

(OP)
my apologies, It's NX8

RE: Failure when converting units to a part file

and the original was draw in 2004 with the history reading "Unigraphics V17.0.2.2"

RE: Failure when converting units to a part file

So has the original been saved in NX8 ?

RE: Failure when converting units to a part file

(OP)
yes as many different drawings with different modifications over the years

RE: Failure when converting units to a part file

Hi,
Try doing a refile in NX8 (rather than save in NX8)on the original part file before doing the unit convert.

RE: Failure when converting units to a part file

If what kapmnit suggested doesn't work them maybe call the TAC phone number.
When the part was created the expressions did not have units, but later on (I forgot what NX version) units were added to expressions, and that is probably what is causing you problems, and they more than likely have a "fix" for this.
