Can ASME Section VIII Div.1 UG27 be used for valves w.t. calculation?

Can ASME Section VIII Div.1 UG27 be used for valves w.t. calculation?

(OP)
Hi,

My complete question is: can ASME Section VIII Div.1 UG27 be used for ball valves body w.t. calculation instead of ANSI B16.34?

Actually I would like to understand the difference between the two calculation formulas and why at the same pressure, temperature and material the two codes give a different response.

Thanks

D.

RE: Can ASME Section VIII Div.1 UG27 be used for valves w.t. calculation?

Section VIII is for pressure vessels and piping, piping components, hydraulic cylinders, engines, etc. are exempt from its requirements.

I'm not familiar with the ANSI standard, but perhaps it includes allowances for mechanical forces as well as pressure?
