Dear all expert,

I got one query regarding mock up test on tube to tubesheet
Welding. How to determine the minimum leak path thickness during review the macro result.Should we refer back to design or we can measure from the macro result. Because during reviewed the report, and porosity was found. As per qw 193.1.3(e) mention the porosity shall not reduce the weld throat below the required leak path thickness. Because it not give a specified value for porosity acceptance.

Pls help newbie.

Regards,

RE: Mock up test as per QW193

The minimum leak path distance is established by code of construction design requirements and not by Section IX testing. You need to go back and review the design calculation of the tube to tubesheet weld fillet to determine what would be the leak path length across the fillet weld. All you are doing in Section IX is confirming the weld size by macro examination testing and determining if defects like porosity reduces the minimum leak path distance.
