Modeling a Slab Supported on Four Walls SAP2000

Modeling a Slab Supported on Four Walls SAP2000

(OP)
Hello,

I am modeling a slab supported on four walls and then will be changing the restraint conditions of the walls to allow rotation and then to fix rotation.

I am trying to model the slab as a single shell and then auto mesh with different mesh sizes until I converge on an answer. The shell however does not contain nodes along it's edges to create joint supports with restraints. I tried creating nodes along the edges to match with the mesh size but the supports did not connect to the slab, only the corner nodes actually restrained vertical deflections.

How could I model this slab? Is there a way to restrain the edge of a shell from displacements and rotations or a way to create nodes where I can place supports?

Much appreciated if anyone has any suggestions.

RE: Modeling a Slab Supported on Four Walls SAP2000

Hi dftucker,

When you assign your auto-meshing properties you can select to add restraint at joints resulting from the meshing. So you could add restraint to the corner of the slab and select the option to add restraint on edges.

Regards
