RE: Journal: find Tool by tool number

Do you have a carrier defined with the pockets?

RE: Journal: find Tool by tool number

Our default setup has pockets. Just drop the tools in the pockets, and the tool numbers will inherit.
If you have not seen this - with your model open, go to file new, manufacturing, general assembly.

I use carriers as folders, only for ordering tools. My template contains many tools, and I would like to reorder them into pockets for the ISV, and create a pocket for every tool, and move the tool into it. I do not know what is the point of pockets and carriers..I can make anything, if needed, but I don't want to make all the pockets manually.

RE: Journal: find Tool by tool number

You can still use carriers for organization and put a lot of tools in them for easy access.
But you should also have pockets, and just drag the tools in to the pcokets you want.
The order that the tools appear inside a carrier or pocket does not determine the tool numbers.

If you are using your own setups, then you only have to create the pcokets once in your setup template. After that they will be there for every part. An easy way is to create a general setup assembly, and then copy the carrier and paste it in to your setup template. You get 30 numbered pockets with all the register inheritance set corrrectly.

I have much more tools, I should take many hours, to order the tools, and check it again.
Can I cycle through tools, and examine the tool_number?

RE: Journal: find Tool by tool number

You cna use a journal to cycle through all the tools and ask or set the tool number.
In the UGOPEN samples, take a look at MillToolSetFluteLengthOntSelection.vb and PocketSetRegistersCycleAll.vb to get some ideas.
