Cable Failure in straight joint

Cable Failure in straight joint

(OP)
In my project, there was cable failure for 22kV cable straight joint in normal operating time. These cable were installed in covered trench.
Anybody can share What would be the reason for cable failure?

RE: Cable Failure in straight joint

In the absence of external influence such as disturbance by heavy equipment or such, failure is usually traceable to an incorrectly installed splice.

RE: Cable Failure in straight joint

Such premature failures are mainly due to either bad workmanship or incorrect application of the cable termination materials or in some cases due to both factors.
to be more stringent in the selection of licensed cable jointers and must follow jointing kit's instruction strictly.

RE: Cable Failure in straight joint

some afterlaying tests are useful too, especially PD Diagnostics which is a very sensitive to incorrect workmanship

RE: Cable Failure in straight joint

Poor application of product. PD may or may not reveal poor workmanship; however, other dielectric testing such as tan delta evolution may have revealed any treeing or paths to ground throught the dieletic prior to energization. The preperation of the cable for the installation of the splice is critical.

RE: Cable Failure in straight joint

In my experience, I second these opinions. Workmanship, followed by miss-application, followed by manufacturing defect.
