Shaded View Rant

Shaded View Rant

Shaded View Rant

(OP)
I am a long time user of NX and today just want to air my opimion about shaded views in Drafting. I do not understand why they need to look so bland and unimpressive. There are other cheaper CAD packages on the market that do this so much better and I think there should be more options for outputing these type of views in drafting.

I do a lot of mechanical and structural type drawings for which this is not required but quite often I need to produce a drawing for more visual purposes for my clients and shaded views in drafting have been a mixed bag over the last few years. I believe it was NX7.5 which used a studio license to render the views when ploting or exporting to PDF which resulted in a quite nice looking "shiny" shaded view. For users though that did not have the studio license it output a message when plotting saying something about using a basic form of shading. I have the studio license so for me I liked this output. In recent releases NX8 and NX8.5 it looks like the rendering when plotting or exporting to PDF has been changed again back to these very boring looking dull shaded views which in most cases come out a lot darker than the shading in the modeling view. I know I can import a screen image or render onto the drawing but sometimes I like to put some basic dimensions on the shaded view which obviously you cant on an imported image.

I love everything else about NX and there are a gazillion settings for almost every other feature in the software why not add some more into the shaded view menu of drafting so I can get some better looking views.

Thats my 2 cents worth and I am interested to see what other peoples views are on this.

Regards,
Jackie.
