Instanced Hole / Array / Promotion

Instanced Hole / Array / Promotion

Instanced Hole / Array / Promotion

(OP)
Hello All,

I'm running NX 7.5.4.4 on 64bit Windows 7 Pro.

I thought there was a way in NX to dissolve an instance feature or to turn off an instance so that it was no longer parametrically linked to the other features in the array.

i.e. I have cylindrical solid and I create a hole on the OD, then I use Circular array or pattern face; and make an array of holes in the cylinder. Without suppressing one of the instances isn't there a way to alter only one of the hole dimensions/properties. In this example make the hole diameter larger.

Thanks

RE: Instanced Hole / Array / Promotion

There really is no need to dissolve an instance feature to get what you need, just use resize face in syncronous modeling to change the hole(s) size(s) that you need to.

That would resize the others as well though correct? The goal is to only resize the selected instance

I see, the symmetric setting applies to the entire array. Thank you, this is simpler. However, I would like to know about the instance method. I seem to remember being able to do it; but I can't quite place it right now.

Thanks!

RE: Instanced Hole / Array / Promotion

Note that all of this changes with NX 8.0 and the new 'Pattern Feature' since in that case we are trully creating a PATTERN of 'features' meaning that each instance can be overridden by whatever parametric value that you wish including whether you want the instance to even exist. In other words, you can DELETE an instance and yet the pattern will remember that it was part of the original Pattern which will allow you to 'undelete' it a later date if you need to.
